If you didn't follow the correct procedure for jump starting a car then you may have caused damage to your cars computer!
http://autorepair.about.com/cs/doityourself/a/bljumpstart.htm
But check the obvious first, make sure your cars battery has a charge, and if its does is it turning over? If it turns over but won't fire you either have a fuel or spark problem, and that could be many things including the cars ECU gone bad from improper jump starting techniques., Good luck hope this helps!

You could have zapped your alternator when you jumpered the other car or it could be an unrelated problem. See if you can get someone to jump your car. After you get it running and remove the jumper cables, check to see that your voltage measured across the battery is between 14-15 volts (this means the alternator is OK). If the voltage is 12 volts or lower, then you need to replace the alternator. If the alternator is putting out, then the battery becomes suspect, so take it out and have it checked and replace if necessary. If when you jump the car, you can not get it to start, then the starter is suspect and probably needs replacing. Good luck.

Many Ford products use a positive ground electric system. Everyone else uses negative ground. If only one of the cars was a ford, there is your problem. One fried computer, voltage regulator, or alternator being the top 3 choices.

You may have scrambled your computer (or something like that)...my husband is constantly telling me NOT to jump start anyone's car! It is really hard to refuse someone though if they need help huh!? Hopefully you will be back on the road soon!

If it won't crank - it's the battery. If it cranks but won't start, you probably had damaged a computer. Let me guess: you jumped the other vehicle with your engine running? Never should do that!

If your "friend" reved up his car as soon as it started, with the jumper cables still hooked up, he blew up your alternator.

Possibly your battery was weakened by your help to your friend....Give him a call and ask him to give you a jump :)

apparently your battery was very weak or old and it did it in or if you hooked the cables up wrong you could have blown out your alternator.
