I had a baby 5 weeks premature, my milk never came in so I had to bottle feed. All the formula we tried made him throw up except Enfamil AR. (Which I suggested to the dr btw) He became constipated on it after a few days. He told me to use Karo syrup, which I did, it made him sick. So it didn't do anything for him, as far as pooping good. Last week he put him on Lactulose solution, he threw up for 2 days. He did go to the bathroom really good though. The dr says he probably has reflux. So now I have to call the dr back yet again, to tell him this med. has made him sick also. He has gained weight, and is still wetting his diapers so I know he isn't dehydrated, I am just frustrated with the Dr. Should I switch dr.s or what would you tell him??

If you switch doctors, you will have to explain all your babies problems again. Give the Dr. another go- but demand a chain of possible solutions so you don't have to see him every time something doesn't work. Personally, I would give my son the one thing he didn't throw up...as it is common for babies to not poop for up to a week (those growth spurts can take all of the nutrients up).
You end saying you are frustrated with the doctor though...and that alone may be reason enough to switch.

The baby may not have reflux. He may have pyloric stenosis. Please ask for an ultrasound. It's when the valve into the stomach basically flows the wrong way. I wouldn't say it's common, but it does happen (as with my brother and my first son) and most often in first-born boys. That could make the baby throw up all the time because you're just filling up his esophagus, not his stomach. If the doctor is not accommodating or doesn't seem to care about that possibility, find one that will care and at least calm your stress. Good luck!

One of the most important parts of selecting a doctor is having someone who you feel comfortable with, and whose opinion you trust. If you are questioning the doctor, that's a sign that you don't have that comfort and trust in him. Consider a second opinion on this issue and see from there. You might find that your intuition told you he was being a bad doctor, but he really was doing everything possible, or you might find that you don't feel he's a good doctor. That's when you should decide whether or not to actually switch permanently or not.

If you feel that your doctor isn't doing all he can for you and your baby, then yes, I would try to find another doctor. If you don't want to go through that hassle yet, don't be intimidated by the white coat. Tell him directly that you are concerned that you're not getting all of the information that should be, and would like him to spend more time explaining options and treatments to you. It's your right to know whats happening with your baby and what is involved in treating him. Some doctors are just too arrogant to realize that part of their job is to educate their patients, not only treat them.

Preemies have a lot of digestive problems. That being said, if you are uncomfortable with your doctor... run! try finding another Dr, someone who has had experience in preemies. How old is your child? if he is older than 5 months you may try prune juice for constipation. Chamomile tea (5 or 10 drops every once in a while) for younger children (one bag of tea in two cups of water). Try a rice-based formula (you may find it at the health food store).
Best of luck

He could have some sort of a stomach problem other than just reflux....you may want to either switch doctors or get a second oppinoin. There could be a serious problem like in his throat or stomach that needs attention.

i imagine your medical professional is faulty. it is amazingly uncommon for dairy that mom consumes to harass the child. And if it did, you would study it. Your infant feels like a common infant... fussy from time to time. It occurs. i fairly do not imagine reducing out dairy is critical. If I were you, i'd see a lactation representative first. probability is they are going to allow you to understand each and everything's going effective, and it is going to ease your suggestions about no longer following the pediatrician's orders. it will be fairly troublesome to diminish it thoroughly out, and it possibly gained't even make a huge difference. Pediatricians fairly don't understand sufficient about breastfeeding...

If you don't feel the Dr is doing his job than switch. they don't call it mom's intuition for nothing. I switch Dr when my baby was 12 months and i love the Dr better. don't waste time. call your area Dr.s and ask about you son's problems. some one has to know how to make your baby better

We can't under estimate doctors decisions but docs are not right all the time. So better to switch to another pediatrician , i guess.
It's more important your baby's life than any thing.
take care
