I have a total of four girls. Youngest is 1-1/2mo old. I have breast fed all this time and would like some relief. She is permanently attached to my breast (feels like) and have other kids to tend to. As well as the house, animals, and cooking. Is it ok to throw in a bottle of formula maybe once or twice a day? Will this upset her tummy?

It might upset her stomach, it's really something you have to try and see. She may also reject one or the other because there is a different taste. I only breastfed for about 3 weeks before I introduced formula. At that time, I would breast feed for one feeding, then formula feed for the next, to get her used to the taste and difference from bottle to breast. She was colic, so I'm not sure if she got upset from the switch or not, but I ended up putting her on soy formula because it seemed to be the easiest on her stomach.

Are you able to pump? If you invest in a breast pump, you can store your milk (even freeze it) and give it to baby that way. If not, switching to formula is just fine, you may just have to try different kinds to find what sits best with her.

If you can bump one breast while nursing on the other you can feed her that bottle and it will increase your milk supply so you can continue.. if that doesn't seem manageable than by all means use the formula it's perfectly fine I would suggest that you talk to your pediatrician to see if there is a formula that is better for transitioning but I think all iron fortified formulas would be fine just keep an eye open and see for yourself how the baby reacts I went through this with my 2nd and 4th child and the formula worked for my 2nd and the pumping worked for my 4th he didn't like the formula... good luck

Can you pump and bottle feed her during the day? I am sure it will be fine to formula feed as well. But you could always pump the night before and have it ready for the next day during the peak hours of chasing and tending to the other kids. Good luck!!!

Yes - Yes - YES! it is ok to do both. I do both. I work full time. I pump when I can. But he gets formula when he's not with me and there's no pumped milk available.

BUT there may be a little experimentation needed. For example, my son couldn't tolerate Similac's regular formula. He had projectile vomoiting. We tried twice, then his doctor suggested switching to soy. That's working just fine.

I felt terrible when he was vomiting the regular fomula, but unfortunately, there is no way to know what will work until you try it. If you are going to introduce formula, keep the baby's doctor informed. He/She will guide you through any questions

She'll adapt just fine. Alot of babies both nurse and take formula, so it is not uncommon. Get some time back to yourself and hand a bottle of formula to a sitter while you aimlessly wander around Target or something. Maybe your oldest would like to try feeding her little sister? Kids love stuff like that! Good luck good momma!

I breat fed my baby as much as I could. When she got a little older, she ate more than I could supply (mainly because I went back to work and I couldn't pump as much). I supplemented her diet with formula. She's 18 months old now and she's only been sick once so don't worry about formula feeding.

Absolutely ... I have 2 boys ... and have done it with both of them.
Obviously every child is different so it very well might not work BUT I have known a lot of parents to succesfully breast and formula feed. Good Luck!

my neice's stomach use to be soooo upset from that. Once the mother did just the bottle her poop wasn't as liquidy and she didn't have as much gas. Most doctors say do one or the other... no both because can't it up will upset the baby's stomach.

I've only known one person who didn't have to supplement with formula. All of the kids are fine.
