I hate the NBA, but I have always enjoyed all star weekend. This year however, was painfully boring in my book. Seems like the highlight of the entire weekend was the race between Charles Barkley and that old referee. This was funny, but when that is the most exciting part of the weekend, that is a disgrace!
The skills challenge is a joke, with players like Kobe and Lebron jogging through it, basically showing that they are too good for that and don't want to be a part of it. The 3 point challenge was ok. The dunk contest gets worse and worse every year! Why can't some of the good players participate in it at least once in their career? Lebron almost got hurt in the game throwing the ball off the glass, and he can't risk getting hurt for doing 5 dunks in a contest with no one in his way?
The actual game was average to me. Sure there was some nice moves, but it was the least competitive in years, and the dunks/moves weren't nearly as good as recent memory.

It was a hell of a lot better than I thought. Personally, I got what I expected out of it. The Rookie Challenge was a blowout for the Sophomores. They had a bunch of crazy challenges for people. But then in the 3 point contest Jason Kapono almost broke the record for points in a round. Pretty impressive. The actual All Star Game was like always, pretty boring, but the Slam Dunk contest was actually pretty good this year (nice little irony that despite Tyrus Thomas said he was only doing it for the money, he didnt win any money). I loved how they added a time limit, to keep players like Nate Robinson from getting to try the same dunk 300 times (he got to try that last one like 10 times and it bored me). Gerald Green was the most innovative dunker I've seen in a while (the off the side of the backboard dunk, the Dee Brown jersey no look over last years champion Nate Robinson. And to finish it off a windmill over a table). Robinson also had some good dunks like the one where he had David Lee just stand there holding the ball in the air and he grabbed it and dunked it. I still thought the best dunk that got robbed was Dwight Howards sticker dunk that was awesome. He had a sticker on his hand, went up to dunk it, slaped the sticker a foot and a half up the backboard, and then dunked it.

Well if you are like me its hard to watch the NBA with all the big dogs of the past not being in the game anymore. I am from Chicago and much of my high school years were in the 90's. And we all know who dominated during thoes years. Bull's basketball was better than any American Idol, 24, Friends TV show there ever was. Not just because Jordan was on the team and being a great Chicago fan but because of the other players in the league. Barkley, Robinson, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkions, Patrick Ewing, Carl Mallon just to name a few. Sorry for how bad my spelling is on thoes guys but I am sure you can figure who I am talking about.
And yes to get back to what you were talking about with why the so called stars of today dont enter the compition is just like why the college ball if more exciting to watch IMO because they play defense. The past players would use All Star weekend to give back to the fans and play with others for fun. Why you think Jordan and Dominic Wilkins entered. They knew that if they did fans would enjoy it. Players in the NBA now would expect to get paid a bonus if they even show up and not honor the fans as they are the ones who make there pay checks. Players in the NBA get too much money now and if they get hurt or not hussle etc its because they dont have the pashion of the past greats. The media would say that Jordon was not a good defense player. So all off season and year long he worked on proving them wrong cuz of his pashion.
Its a different game now and different age of so called stars. IMO the stars of before are by far better then the ones now.

i have because this was actually my first all star weekend that i saw.First team chicago was robbed, then the skills challenge was like nobdy even do anything but dwade, the dunk contest was horrible, howard's dunk should have gotten 50 and the judges were too hard there wasn't originality and new things. And the all star game was like a normal game. The west didn't give us the fans flashy dunks or crossovers, they were just shooting.Unlike the east they were trying dunks and impossible plays. It may be weird but the only thing that i like was the rookie sophomore game and the celebrity game.
Oh i forgot barkley's race was the fun part but he kissed the ref in the mouth!YUCK

I agree. There was not one "special" moment in the All-Star Game you can really point it and say that was awesome. The Dunk Contest started off good, but faded at the end with Nate Robinson suckin it up and Green's lame over the table dunk. The game itself was a blowout and the dunks were plain.

I thought the All Star weekend SUCKED. I was in Vegas and I can tell you that I hope the NBA never comes back.
Forget about the NBA, the real action this past weekend was all the gun fights and criminal element that followed the NBA to town.
The atmosphere was more threatening/dangerous than the days when Mike Tyson was at his best.
Sad!
Too many thugs acting like fools.
Las Vegas police had record arrests for the weekend. Why?

The dunk contest and the 3 point shootout was good but the all star game itself sucked. Everything seemed like it was moving in slow motion and the players were dead. So much for a great all star game.....

I totally agree about everything you said. The race was the only thing that was cool and i really wanted charles to lose. it would have been more entertaining. i was waiting for the race every since they said they were going to do it. i didn't even care about the other events because they seemed boring. I wish there was more trash talk so when the person failed I could atleast laugh.
Also does anyone know why shaq is mad at damon jones?

man, as a former basketball junky/ gym rat, i haven't sat through a basketball game in years. all star game weekend used to be the best, far superior to the MLB all star game, the Pro Bowl, whatever it is they call the NHL game and NASCAR's game but man the NBA has gone down hill. i don't know what it is and i hate to be cliche but it really does seem that you can miss three and half quarters, catch 5 to 7 minutes of a game and feel as though you have watch it in the entirity. nough said. hell, my team was in the finals last year and i don't think i sat through an entire game in the series... come on NBA, get your freakin act together.

I think the shooting stars wasn't bad. but not good.
the skills was a disapointment watching people think they're too good for the NBA.
3 Point was ok. not good . not bad
dunk was not as good as ever. i agree D Howard's dunk was sweet. but that was it. it was all really lame.
THE GAME!!!! how was i supposed to enjoy it. frekin LeBron was throwing the ball against the back board and not even catching it. and right after that he aired a 3ball. how pathetic. we need better dunkers and a good skills comp
