In Greek mythology, Athena was the goddess of wisdom and welfare. She WAS born in a very strange way, out of Zeus's, (her father) head. She turned a woman into a spider after an argument, and is the patron of Athens. She gave the city the olive tree, because the one she was competing with, Poseidon, gave the city a well containing salty water. She was chosen by the people. Another name for Athena is Athene.

Athena is the goddess of wisdom, arts and war. She was born in a very odd way. Zeus ate her mother fearing that the child would over power him like he did to his father. He was hit in the head by an axe and she arouse fully grown and armored from his head. She is his favorite daughter. She is associated with the owl. Among her gifts to man were the inventions of the plow and the flute and the arts of taming animals, building ships, and making shoes. She is also known in a story where she was in a weaving contest with a young girl, named Arachne. They both weaved and the girl was about to win when Athena tore her work to shreds. The girl was so sad she hung herself. Athena out of pity changed the girl into a spider so she could spin for eternity.

She is also present in other myths. But my typing fingers are tired.

Athena is a fairly common name, but I assume you mean Athena the goddess.

She's a goddess, and therefore existance is an accomplishment.

Bringing the olive tree to Athens would be a good start, I suppose.

You could have found out all this and more much more quickly by doing the research yourself on Google or Dogpile, or even going to the library and looking in Edith Hamilton's 'Mythology', 'Bulfinch's Mythology', or even an encyclopedia.

PS. She was the goddess of *defensive* warfare.

she is a girl i went to high school with, she was blond and was pretty nice until you messed with her man, she was intelligent but only in books, not the type of person you would want to get stuck in the car with should a cop pull you over, and she was also a member of the track team.
