it usually dies down after a mile of driving. it quits smoking. what could it be? I even changed the oil yesterday. thinking maybe i added too much. but, it still smokes...white smoke.

Are you sure it's not just condensation? All cars do it for the first few miles on a cold morning.

Also, take any advice from here with a pinch of salt. Most people don't have any idea of what they are talking about.

white smoke is condensation (water)...too much oil would cause the oil to be pushed out of your dipstick tube and splatter over your engine...you'd smell it burning on your exhaust manifold...if the smoke is coming from your exhaust pipes and is white and stops after a few minutes it's condensation...nothing to worry about

Check the dipstick first, to see if it is overfilled. White smoke usually means water is mixing with oil, usually from a bad head gasket, cracked head or engine block

check how much oil you put in, a lot of smoke is a result of too much oil/ or oil might be entering the burn chamber which is a sign of a dieing motor which will need its head replaced

If it is white smoke it could be that the motor is now passing water into the engine. That means seals in the header could be worn out.

If you put too much oil in your engine, the engine can start burning the oil.

take it to a mechanic
