I live in High Springs, Fl....it's about 20 miles nw of Gainesville. I lived in Gainesville for about 20 years. Gainesville is a great place to raise a family. It's a University town so you get the culture of a bigger city but less people. The schools are great! If you are in a health related field Gainesville has 3 hospitals. The average home price range is 200,000. That can get you a 3 bedroom house in a nice area with good schools. If you prefer the beach it's about a 1 1/2 drive to St Augustine on the east coast and Cedar Key on the west coast is about a hour from Gainesville. If you like sports this is the place to be....Gators won the National Championship in Basketball and Football. In High Springs there is a river (Santa Fe) that has many beautiful Springs that your kids swim in and thats only about 25 min. from Gainesville. It's also a great river to kayak ...you we see all kind of wild creatures and some real cute turtles. I've only seen about 2 gators the 10 years I've been Kayaking the river. It's a great place to live!

I left Indiana for Florida and left Florida after 5 years. Please consider what you are doing...Florida may be warmer but the lifestyle is VERY different and the winter crowds ruin it for the residents. Summer is very hot - too hot for pool or beach. The seasons are so subtle they aren't worth noting. I think you'll miss the trees changing etc. How about going where it's warmer but not Florida? Please do more research
