The problem is also with the media....There are PLENTY of postive hip hop music out there...but the ones that get played on radio and tv are the ones about women, drugs, & violence.. That is b/c most of the rappers who sing about these type of things pretty much sell themselves to the devil just for a buck....we all know most of these rappers dont give a crap about our youth in the black community or America's youth in general...It's not also about whats popular...b/c it's white children who buy's the CD's and concerts tickets...most rappers get their $$$ from endorcements not their music...and most black ppl I know get their CD's from the bootleg man on 125th st or the internet.

IT'S NOT THE PARENTS FAULT!!!! It takes a village/society to raise good children....The parents may be doing their job but if society isnt doing its job we have to shift the blame on them too..Besides the majority of children in foster care are black children (b/c they get adopted least from any other race of children) should we as a society or black community give up on them b/c they have no parents...??

I personally feel that the black community is doing well and moving forward, but we still get protrayed in a negative way in hip hop and other media..this is what the youth see..they really think life is a "struggle" but if u really look around, it isnt....@ least not in most of America..

I'm not African American but I am Afro-Caribbean and I love hip-hop. You can't blame music on the way black people choose to act. In my book you are ignorant if you believe everything that hip-hop portrays and the media portrays. I also think that it is the parents faults for not teaching there children the difference from what is fake and reality. You can't let a child listen to certain aspects of hip-hop and not explain to them that it isn't real and this is what some people must do in order to make a living. That making music is a job...it's their career. The only thing that is hurting our community is us. You can't blame music. It has to do with the way you are being raised and what your parents teach you. I have listened to hip-hop all my life and have always know that not all of it is real and that it isn't all about smoking blunts, drinking 40s, and banging chicks. That's not what life is about. But some people obviously don't get that. There are many rappers out there who talk about real issues, positive issues, and things that actually talk about doing good in life. Like Common, Nas, Jadakiss, Jay-Z(to a certain extent), Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, etc. So you really can't sit there and blame hip-hop. Blame your self for falling into the stereotypes and how the world portrays us.

It is not only african american people who support hip hop.In my opinion people always talk about hip hop and what its doing but yet their the ones who listen to it and even buy the cd's.Ive heard a few caucasion people talk about hip hop and how its trash. Then why are they the ones trying to listen to the music then.Everybody has a choice to listen to what they want. They think its trash, then dont listen to it!!I dont agree that music influences the way you live life because ive listen to this music my whole life and i know the difference on what they say and whats real.Parents have to teach their children that everything they hear and see is not what life is really about. I also do agree on how hip hop is starting to portray the black communities but i know that not everyone is like that.I know african americans who live a normal life, who are educated, not drug dealers, just not the life they portray on tv. So before people start stereotyping certain ethnic groups they need to check theirs.Hip hop is just big right now and its just bad that people have to sterotype people who listen to it.

There are rappers who have positive lyrics, but they are the exception. It's up to parents to tell their kids not to emulate the thug life that is portrayed in a lot of rap music. It's just like violent movies. People need to be able to seperate entertainment from reality. I do agree that a lot of rappers are an embarrassment to the black community. I don't know what's cool about selling drugs, shooting people, getting locked up or having illegitemite kids. The black community needs positive leaders who aren't afraid to speak out against mindless garbage like gangsta rap.

Actually I don't think that all Rap portrays us in a negative light, but certainly most of it does. However, I happen to know several well known Rappers personally, and I have to tell you that they are where they are in life today simply because they could Rap. Like basketball or any other thing that one have the talent for, people just want to succeed. I think black rappers who have made it should lead the way by cleaning up their raps.

You can't blame music for the way people act....I listen to hip-hop because i like it...I don't listen to every single hip-hop song and like it......so, the ones I don't like I don't listen to.....Don't blame music and say it hurts the community when it has nothing to do with it...There are many different factors that contribute to hurting a community...but, hip-hop is not one of them....If u don't like it...don't listen to it!

Actually, if you look at record sales statistics, it's white kids who are supporting hip hop more than blacks.

We should start a ghetto revival i.e. VH1 white rappers

Very good question. I would love to see a revival in the black community. A new day for blacks that control themselves. Where black children are actually born to both parents. Where black men learn to lay hands on people and they get healed, not injured.

Hip hop is one of the major factors why the black community continue down there downward spiral. Kids listen to it and emulate it.
