Why do Pharmacists stand on raised platforms behind high counters in [the back of] most drugstores?

Because they feel so superior to the rest of us, and they like to look down their noses? After all, they DO get to wear those nifty white coats!! Did you know that their schooling is nearly as long as an M.D.?
