Folks who choose to participate in high risk recreational sports . . . specifically mountain climbing . . . depend on tax dollars to pay for the personnel and equipment when 'rescue' is needed.

Why do these survivors not have to pay for the costs of their own rescue? Would it not seem more fair that they should be billed for these services? similar to having to pay for ambulance services?

It is not fair that tax dollars should be paying for those types of things. Some states are starting to charge people for the money that has been spent during the rescue efforts.

There were some people rescued in the New England states over the past fall and early winter who went hiking in the White Mountains in poor conditions, without proper gear, and others who were hiking or snowmobiling and they were rescued that are now being billed for the thousands of dollars that were spent.

Not only are large amount of tax dollars being spent on these types of things, but many rescuers are putting their lives in danger and are getting hurt during these rescues.

They should have to pay and then we'd see a lot less of them taking these unsafe trips. I own a trucking company in Texas and if something happens to one of my trucks and the city wrecker goes by, I am charged a min of $300 just to be moved on side the road. Yes they too should be charged for their rescue.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to climb a mountain in the Winter. I think that it is crazy. I think that they should pay for the costs also.
Peace out.

Absolutely they should pay. If I get into trouble on the lake, the coast guard comes out, I'd be charged.
