There has been much speculation that the human genome has been manipulated. Why are we as a species so 'blueprinted' for speech and language for example?

First of all, I believe that there is no chance that there is not extraterrestial life somewhere in the universe; if the Earth was fortunate enough to evade all the things that would have killed off humans and all other life, somewhere in infinite space there would have to be other planets suitable for life. It's just a matter of finding that planet or planets...or them finding us.
Which brings me to your first question. If there were aliens living with us on Earth, there may not be a way to determine that they're not truly human. Just the same as no one can say indefinately that there is extraterrestrial life, they can't say what the species would be like. Their intelligence, their resources etc., are completely unpredictable. If it were an incredibly advanced race they may be able to 'copy' a human and appear in every way to be human. On the other hand, maybe it's a race of flying pigs that could live in space and one happened to be caught by our gravity and floated graciously to the ground.
Maybe the human race was manipulated to turn out just how we did by aliens or God or some other unknown. We may have been programmed or even 'told' to become advanced in speech and language, but it may have just happened as an objective of evolution. The need to communicate between one another was very important and the human mind may have just adapted to learn and comprehend symbols and noises as meaning something and it went from there.
The thing is is that we can't prove that any one thing did happen. We can't prove evolution, or aliens, or the way the mind works, all we have are opinions and theories until something can be set in stone.

There is no extraterrestrial life on this planet. Does life exist outside of this planet. I believe so. But they have not visited earth.
