It is about black little sisters getting separated going through hard times and reuniting at the end. They go through very harsh incidents and the owner of the one girl is very mean which makes matters even worst.

The Color Purple is an epistolary novel. The central character is Celie, a young woman who is sexually abused by her father (who, she later discovers, is her stepfather) and is forced to marry a widower with several children, who is physically abusive towards her.
Then her husband's mistress, singer "Shug" Avery, comes into the scene. Initially, Celie feels threatened by this effervescent, liberated version of femininity - a form that has previously been alien to her. Celie eventually finds that she is sexually attracted to "Shug".
Like "Mr. __", Celie's husband (Albert), Shug has little respect for Celie and the life she lives at first and continues in her lover's footsteps, abusing Celie and adding to her humiliation.
In time, however, the two women become lovers and Celie gradually learns what it means to become an empowered woman in her own right, through both sexual and financial emancipation and she finds the strength to leave her tyrannical husband.

Oh, it was suppose to be an accurate account of what many black women went through in the 1920's and 1930's. Alot of the things that happened in that movie probably did happen in real life. I know that hundreds of African American youths were given the chance to go back to Africa in those years. As happened to Whoopie Goldberg's incest children in the movie. Also, black men were suppose to have been extremely abusive to their wives back in those days. It is said that it happened in 8 of every 10 black Southern households. I'll tell you a black movie that didn't make a lick of sence. That was "Beloved" which starred some of the same actors as The Color Purple.

The purpose of a movie is to sell tickets.
The purpose of this movie is to sell ticket to a primarily black audience.
The purpose of this assignment is to get you to write your own paper and to keep your teacher from actually having to read another book.
I don't know which is worse, the fact that you can not even watch a movie and tell the teacher what you saw or the fact that the teacher was to lazy to read another book.
Long story short, blacks in the US have the problem of knowing that there was a day when their family members were sold off or given away like stray cats in a cardboard bo to who ever would take them or pay for them and as such they spend a great deal of time wondering where all of there family is.
There you go, a summary in one sentence.
If you want the play by play write what you saw. It should make sense to you now.
I don't give free term papers over the internet.

While I haven't seen the movie in it's entirety, I have read the book, and I believe that the movie is a pretty good interpretation.
I really think you need to just rewatch the movie or read the book. They are lessons that cannot be explained. Very deep an poignant.

Ugh, I read the book.
It's about a girl, and she has to live with this guy, and he basically rapes her, and she's missing her brother, then she runs away with her aunt or something. Yeahhh. Go to sparknotes.com
