I'd theorize that people judge cultures on the political/social successes of their home country. PR is a beautiful island right? Many USA residents probably think of parts of Mexico as having some nasty parts. They think of Tijuana, most likely.
Maybe Mexico should run ad campaigns on their beautiful cities and towns. Everyone knows beaches are generally beautiful.. how about the guts of the country? Revamping political systems and having those systems bring in wealth more evenly to the population, also helps outsiders' opinions of the people.

I am in agreement with tb47. People are judged by where they are from. I am assuming that PR, being a protectorate of the US is run much like the US, where the people are raised to be proud of who they are and to feel superior to others. I live in Mexico - am not Mexican or American. The most frustrating thing about the culture here is that no matter what is wrong - corruption, pollution of the environment, human rights abuse, family violence, the power that the Catholic church has, and acceptance of the way other people view them - is met with "that's the way it has always been". Until this attitude changes and Mexicans say "enough! things have to change", they will be judged by how their country is run. This is a beautiful country that is rich in resources. The people on the whole are wonderful and caring. They have to change things and in that change will come back the pride that their ancestors had. The pride that has been smothered by the invasion of other cultures who have convinced them that they are inferior, ignorant, and uneducated.

Before anybody says puerto ricans are glamorized then their wrong.I am a proud puerto rican but that doesnt mean that i think im better than anyone.People who do are ignorant and its not just puerto rican people.Ive seen many other hispanic groups think that they are better than everyone besides puerto ricans. So before people generalize puerto rican being glamorized your wrong because mexicans,cubans,colombians,ect...they do the same so its not just puerto ricans. We should just be proud that we are hispanic no matter where we are from and quit thinking one group is better than the other because nobodys better than anybody.

Puerto Ricans like to think they're better than everybody else. Since they're a protectorate state of the U.S., they are naturally U.S. citizens without having to fight for it. They think their **** doesn't stink. I'm Hispanic and I know Puerto Ricans (my uncle married one). Believe me, they think they're the best or least better than their Hispanic counterparts. Society lets them get away with it. There are hierarchies in the Hispanic culture.

Puerto ricans DOOOOO think their **** dont stink... I am not PR...so I'm on the outside looking in....but I have PR friends and I've been to PR as well...most of them do think they are better than Mexicans and even Dominicans......I personally think the PRs that were born and raised in America have this complex more than the PRs born and raised in PR.
