I worked P/T down to the hotel (3 mi.from my house), and also had a 8-5 F/T job. I was offered a F/T position in management at the hotel, and accepted. Only being at my F/T job for 3 months, I gave them 2 week notice. (that was last week). Wednesday, I had an unexpected need at the hotel being short handed, and called into my F/T job. I was told if I could not full fill my 2 week notice, I was done. I felt bad, but I had to do what I had to do. I still need to go there and get all of my office stuff, but am afraid to face everyone for letting them down. I know what I did was wrong, but in the long run, I had to take care of what was needed for my new F/T position at the hotel. How would you handle it? What would you say to anyone who gives me grief if I go to get my stuff?

It is always better to burn bridges behind you than to burn bridges that are before you. You did the right thing. If anyone gives you grief remember that you will more than likely never see them again. Feel sorry for them...as they are stuck working for a company that fosters such animosity towards co-workers who get better jobs.

Good luck at your new job.

Remember that you have a new job that offered a better oppurtunity. If anyone gives you grief about leaving just explain that they would have done the same thing if they were in the situation. Or just say I love my new job and I dont have to explain to anyone. You can also let them know that you aren't leaving friends behind your just leaving one place of work for a better oppurtunity. Everyone should understand that. Or have someone you can rely on pack your stuff and have it at the front desk for pick up.

Good luck!

Well, I would not have agreed to break my 2 week notice. It was unethical of the hotel to ask you to do that. You had agreed to start your new F/T position in 2 weeks and it should not have been asked that you started earlier, as long as the hotel had initially agreed to the start date.

However, since it is done, just be sincere and apologize when you go in.

Go out with your guns blazin. Before they can give you crap tell them all how much you hated working with them...maybe throw in a little physical violence. That would be the smart way to handle it
