This has been going on about a week, they have little appetite but ive tried feeding them peas and they dont seem interested, just these long threads of faeces that trail everywhere, my tank is starting to look like a spider has moved in. Any ideas please?

Something is wrong with your fish, for some reason they are stressed and causing them not to eat well. Do they have any other signs of sickness? What size is the tank? Do they have a filter and how often do you do water changes? Something could be wrong with the water or they could have a bacterial infection. If the water is fine treat with an anti bacterial medicine.

That is a sign of internal parasites. Try API General Cure or Tetra Parasite Guard, something with Praziquantel as an ingredient. My preferred method of treating a potential internal parasite problem is to soak a few goldfish pellets in a solution of General Cure and water for a few minutes and then feed them to the goldfish rather than medicate the entire tank.

Make sur eyou shell the peas. Otherwise they can't get at them to eat them. shell the peas then squish them a little between your fingers than throw them in.

They're sick. talk to the person at the petstore you'll need to change the way you treat the water.

Maybe you should clean the tank more often and that's what it's supposed to look.
