I'm just starting basketball this year. I feel the need to improve grately to catch up with my other team mates. How can I improve if there is no basketball court or gym near my house?

First, you could just get a basketball and work on dribbling skills most of the time. So, you could be a better ball handler than anyone on your team and that could earn you a starting point guard spot. Also, start practicinggetting a good shooting form and then getting better at that at practices.

You should though try and get to some courts so you can get better at all your skills.

If you don't have a hoop where you live, there are still lots of things you can do with or without a ball in your driveway/sidewalk/backyard.

Shooting is only a small part of the game, practice dribbling with both hands, practice chest and bounce passes to yourself against a wall, work on your conditioning, etc.

Work on the fundamentals of the game if you can't practice your shot, you'll be surprised how much better they alone will make you.

handle a ball wherever you go, if you have a road just go dribble up and down it for a while, that will help your handles. Lay on your bed and just work on keepin your elbow in and just get that shooting stroke down, it will help when u get on a real goal. Finally jump rope or do some sort of calistenics to get your feet coordinated and get some hops. That will help you on D

imho shooting is overrated. most players get fame because they score. well what about defense and ball handling. huh? that's what matters not shooting
