A coin has around a 25 year life span while a paper bill has around a 5 year

Personally, I like the coins. Biggest reason is the coin slot on a vending machine has a lot less trouble accepting coins than paper bills. With the high cost of vending items, dollar coins are much more convenient than a pocket full of quarters, and more reliable than paper money.

Personally, I"m waiting for the day when we can do everything electronically and phase out of using coins and paper currency completely (or at least keep it to a minimum). But to answer your questions, I definitely agree that the coins are a better use for our money. I like them in the smaller denominations. I think they have a pretty good system going in Canada...one and two dollar coins as well as all our coins under one dollar, and then paper money for everything else.

I see the gold colored dollars around town and in most places, when you go to a change machine, you get the gold coins. It sounds like a good idea, but it's going to take some getting used to by a lot of people. When I drop the dollar coin in the bus fare slot,I frequently get an argument from the driver. Trying to spend the coins can become a daily chore. Oh,and they weigh down the purse a lot. I'm having trouble seeing a man carrying around $20. in gold coins in his pockets. But,$5 billion is a lot of money,so,who knows?

Yes but include 1$, 2$, and 5$ coins. This would be similar to the way the Euro is marketed and that system works just fine. This would also save money which could be returned to the taxpayer

economically we should, as its lot more sound to have a coin $1 but it seems most people enjoy the bill and won't change so thats why it has failed the past times. They are attempting to do it again soon by doing something like the did the quarters by changing presidents on it instead of having an Indian on it.
