i am using an s-video cable to scart to transfer my picture to the tv so that i can watch a movie, however the output on the TV is black and white any ideas

aha!! i had this problem ages ago!

First thing to check is

A. did you bend any of the metal pins in the connectors... there easy to bend. get sumit to bed it back to shape.

B. this is more likely if you aint bent it like i did. its to do with PAL and NTSC settings on your graphics card, there is some settings in there, is it an nvidia card? you have to access the advanced settings and change the output to something with either pal or ntsc, i went through abdout 40 different pal and ntsc settings before i got colour.... THEN it got tough trying to record stuff with macrovision :P

I had this problem with old TV sets but latest ones worked.

change the tv channel you are using to view it, otherwise it might be the settings in the control panel for your graphics card
