The government does not have jurisdiction over the price of gasoline. There is no current legal way to place a governmental cap on thr price of any commodity and oil is a commodity. The government could cap its' own portion of the cost, the taxes that are added to the price, but that would create a deficit in taxes that would have to be made up somehow. The simple answer is that the government doesn't cap the price of gas because it does not have the authority to do so.

Hardly feasible; If oil stays at $30 a barrel, maybe, but what happens at $50-$60 a barrel?

Yah, let's keep funding this Middle East mess forever. Plus we could fill up our SUV's (you know, the one's with the magnetic ribbons on the back stating proudly 'WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS') for less money here at home.
Fuel ought to be about $7.00 at the pump. Does anybody think that if we weren't having to buy this slop we wouldn't be over there?
