It originated with the old "Star Trek" TV series. The crew was "beamed down" to a planet by standing in the transporter device and having their cells scrambled and beamed to the spot of their choosing. The cells were put back together after they reached their destination (most of the time...).

The chief engineer, nicknamed Scotty because of his heavy Scottish accent, was usually at the helm of the starship when Captain Kirk and his first mate, Mr Spock, were exploring a planet. Whenever there was trouble and they had to get off the planet fast, Captain Kirk would contact the helm and say "Beam me up, Scotty!" And away they went, safe for another adventure.

It is a reference from 'Star Trek'. Scotty was the engineer on the Enterprise who was in control of the transporter room and 'beaming' people up.
The phrase 'Beam me up, Scotty' was never actually spoken on screen in the original series, the closest was 'Scotty, beam me up'.

It's a misquoted phrase from the original Star Trek series. Scotty was the chief engineer, but he often had the duty of using the transporters to beam up the landing party from the planet.

It's a request for Scotty (the transport officer, or whatever) to beam (or transport) Captain Kirk up the the space ship Enterprise. This statement derives from the series Star Trek.

Its from Star Trek (The Original shows)

The engineer's name was scotty, who also worked the teleport device, so when someone wanted to be transported from one place to their ship they would say 'Beam me up Scotty' meaning, activate the transporter.

Now its become a sort of slang saying, not really meaning anything other than a funny and well known phrase from the Star trek series.

It was a saying from a tv show called Star Trek. The show was about exploring the universe. whenever a new planet was found and there was no intelligent life found, he was told to Beam me up Scotty as in space travel. Look for the old Star Trek series.

Montgommery 'scotty' Scott was the name of the engineer in the original Star Trek series.

When Captain Kirk needed to be 'beamed' (teleported) to the ship, he used his communicator to request it. His words were usually "Scotty, beam me up." although sometimes he did say "Beam me up, Scotty"
