the 90-94 eclipse had a lot of motor and transmission problems. alot of recalls etc. is the 95-99 better or are they the same far as motor an tranny problems. piston rings, valves.

If you are talking about the 4G63 turbo motor found in the GST and GSX then, yes, it is a fine engine. Very durable.

If you are speaking of the non-turbo motor, then the answer would be no. The 95+ RS/GS motor was also found in the Dodge Neon, and is notorious for blowing headgaskets.

Depends on which engine your talkin about the 4G63 engine is a very stout engine, holds up like a tank. Now the 420A engines found in the RS and GS models hold up some (I put 7 PSI on my stock block held up fine) but they are better when built. New rods and pistons go with Crower rods and JE pistons. Transmissions are a different story the mitsu. tranny holds the power but wear out fast and are pricey to fix. the Chrysler tranny needs alot of work to hold the HP but can be done.

I think the tranny still had some issues, but good motor.
