would blow you away and leave you permenantly altered from the viewing experience? Like, would have your jaw dropped, have you in tears and not only have you jump out of your seat in applause at the end but transform your point of view of the world ever more?

note: i suspect the best answer would go to a suggestion of something that has never been thought of, seen or done or said before. ( and i certainly do not have the answer )

question is, what is missing in the movies?

Today's movies....um I would have to say orginality, thought provoking.
Anyway this a hard question to ask as it depends on what kind of movies you like. I like movies that are very thought provoking. Maybe not so much make me jump out my seat but leave me sitting there thinking "damn" because it gets me thinking. I like things that get me thinking.
I love the "Saw" movies because it blows me away of how much thought was put into the aspect of the entire thing being a game or riddle that the viewer tries to figure out before the end. And just when you thought you had it figured out the end comes and your sitting there thinking "damn thats screwed up" It blows me away to think someone out there is that screwed up to think of such things...(actually it makes me feel connected to some degree...lol)
Not many movies today seem to have much thought placed in them. Just put a bunch or graphic crap together and bam you supposly have a box office hit. Eye candy is all it is really.

I really loved 80's movies, they had fun story lines and so many of them where totally original. I really like the ones that show setting of the person back in their childhood, and something that come from it. Like, Christmas Story...The best new one like that I think is Without a paddle. I think it appeals to the mainstream audience, of being able to relate and think about the good old days.

What is missing in main stream films are good actors/actresses.
I don't think someone like Lindsay Lohan or Jessica Simpson will be nominated for an Oscar anytime soon.

Dare I mess with the best? :) Yeah, I dare...

I was reading going back a while (I think it was on an imdb.com message board) that in The Wizard Of Oz after Dorothy got back home they panned down to the floor and the ruby slippers were really under the bed.

Another thing I would have loved to see in Oz is if when Dorothy got back to Kansas it would have stayed in Technicolor, implying that the visit to Oz chaged her view of her surroundings...

Have you ever seen the director's cut of The Butterfly Effect? I saw it before the theatrical version and personally, where the theatrical version was a much happier ending, it was very shocking and a more original ending in the director's cut.
