I think it should be legal, if those women want to sell their bodies, let them do it, but also let them be considered employed people, who pay taxes, and the unemployement rates would decrease also...

Why would you want to get rid of it ?? Every woman is a prostitute at some degree anyway. Pay for dinner, pay for valentines gifts, buy her the house and then there is divorce where a man pays BIG time. If you think of it, prostitution is the cheapest way for a guy to have sex. There are exceptions true, but they are not likely to become the rule anytime soon. Just look at Oprah Billionaire and of a sudden she does not feel the need to get married to somone who has far less money than herself.

I think it's sad that some women feel they have to resort to this extreme to live, however, it is a crime and all crimes are punishable by jail time or by paying a fine of some kind. Prostitutes should have a very hefty fine because what they do puts a lot of people at risk for a variety of health concerns. Prostitution also gives perverts access to living out their perversions of sexual acts and even feeling in control when in reality they are living out of control. Because kids are being used in this aspect, it needs to be outlawed, completely.

i think we shouldn't get rid of prostitution as it helps the society. It is seen that the countries who have legalised prostitution is facing a veryy less cases of eve teasing or Rape.
So i think in some way it is gud for the whole society.

the word "prostitution" is given to explain a job. none of the women enjoy prostitution. definitely there will be a reason for what they are doing. i think if anyone could help the family for their income then their will be no prostitutes.

The best way to get rid of prostitutes is detoxing the drugged out ones and educating them so they can integrate into society productively.
Yeah, if we legalize it we'll have tons of stds. It'll be as common as smoking cigarettes, or alcohol. Than we can tell the kids don't go prostituting yourself tonight guys. The abortion clinics will be like the dmv. It'll be cool to sell your stuff and advertised by the media.
Because prostitution is unstoppable we shouldn't fight it. Like killing is unstoppable. so why fight in wars? Why even kill people like Hitler? History repeats itself.
In fact everyday life is a struggle perhaps we should just stop struggling to survive and just sit there and die. Maybe apathy is the answer to all our problems and exploiting them will make them less desirable. Exploiting the genocide of cultures sure didn't stop it. Exploiting cigarettes and alcohol is doing a great job at keeping people from driving drunk and getting cancer. Exploiting the killing of species didn't make them endangered.
Exploiting outsourcing labor isn't hurting anyone. Exploiting violence in the media hasn't made our society more violent. Exploiting materialism hasn't made our society look at people for "bling" and their cars for social standing. The only thing you can't exploit is education.

I agree with daljack, get rid of every man and woman on the planet. Prostitution has been around since the beginning of time and it is not going anywhere.

Hi asna,
Congratulations to have started a debate.
Your question is how to get rid of prostitution. The answer to it cannot be that 'legalise it'. We should be talking on the measures to eradicate it, where as propogators of legalising it are wanting that it take even deeper roots.
madeit wrote very precise answer in two words 'healthy marriages'. congratulations. pericharl-v discussed on the causes that lead a lady to prostitution. Opinion of DNA typist also deserve appriciation.
The anser to this question can run into writing a book by itself. To concise it we need to know man and woman and their relations and their needs towards each other. In a family, like in any institute there has to be one leader one head. Here it is a man. The wife gets her rightful place with all rights and protection from her husband, including fulfilment of her sexual desires and fulfilment of other needs s.a. home, clothings, food, expenses, etc etc.
When the balance is lost in the institute called marriage, problems start. Here the question put forth by pericharl-v pops its head up. The lady is unable to support herself and enters into this profession. NO LADY WOULD LIKE TO ENTER PROSTITUTION BY CHOICE, WILL SHE?
We need to look at the needs of those women who are made helpless by the situations beyond any body's control. like untimely death of the husband etc. Here will come legalising second/multiple marriages for a man. The benifits will be many fold. To put in few 1) Women will get a legal and respectable support from the man and the society. 2) Every child will be looked after by a responsible father. 3) Man's need to explore extra marital avenues for sex will be curbed as he will have second lady with whom he can satisfy himself differently. 4) It is wel known that number of surviving women is more than the surviving men. What should the surviving women do? where do they get their men? This is an answer to it.
The list can be extensive. As it will be legalised, the man will have to share himself and all his assets equally between wives.
ABOVE ALL EVERY ACT OF EXTRA MARITAL SEX SHOULD BE PUNISHABLE SO SEVERLY THAT NO MAN/WOMAN SHOULD DARE THINK OF IT.
These are few points how we can get rid of prostitution.

I don't think it will go away, it's been around since the beginning of time. Sex sells, and people are making millions, if you want to do something about it, then you are talking about taking money from big companies, and corporations. Isolation is a start.

Legalizing it is the best way to curb it: if it's legalized, then the government can regulate, license and tax it. There would probably be LESS pregnancies and STDs if it were regulated.
And no, it will never go away.
