I've found this file in my process list, but I don't know what it means and whether I can delete it.

It doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft update. It is a browser hijacker or worm. Don't delete it, remove it with SpyBot Search & Destroy, which one answerer told you, and provided the link for getting it. Download and install it, then immunize your computer before running a full bot check. Remove everything SpyBot finds.

msupdate.exe is an advertising program by CoolWebSearch spyware. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analysis. This also prompts advertising popups. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Get a free spyware remover such as Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove this and other spyware/malware.

Hi,
This file may be added by a variant of the RBOT WORM. You should use some high-quality antivirus or spyware to remove it. Here you can find some suggestions: http://www.securitystronghold.com/gates/spyware-adware-solutions/Microsoft-IT-Update_msupdate.exe_solution.htm
