Hunting accidents are treated like any other shooting incident. If there is a determination of carelessness on the part of the shooter they are subject to prosecution for manslaughter. The bottom line is, if you accidentally shoot a person while in the field hunting, you have an obligation to get aid for that person as soon as possible; the shooter would not be qualified to pronounce that person dead and withholding assistance could in itself be a crime. So report it, render first aid and pray for the person's recovery.

As for Dick Chaney, there were enough credible witnesses to attest to the fact that he did not intentionally shoot his hunting partner. Upland bird hunting is different that deer hunting in that the hunters often walk a line and have to use extra Care not to be in the line of fire if a bird crosses in front of them and the hunters swing their guns to track the bird.

Hypothetically you shouldn't advertise what you did on the Internet unless you plan on doing the right thing and confess. If it was an accident, nothing will happen if you did it on purpose then you deserve to go to jail.

If it was a accident you should confess to it and hope for the best. Otherwise, you would be on the run until you are caught anyway. Also, by running you would sound more guilty.

The reason they go to jail is because they've done something wrong. If you are in a hunting accident where you've REALLY done nothing wrong, then you have nothing to worry about.

Your questions are amusing.

Help the other person as much as you can, whilst calling for emergency medical and police help.
Don't interfere with anything at the scene of the accident

Good luck! Rob
