Boredom. He didn't create us, he created the universe. The universe was useless without something in it, so there was a world with natural substances which eventually gave rise to humans.
Trial and error: he's actually working on something bigger. We're the test run.
Though in my opinion- we were a complete accident of the cosmos.
Really though- this is oversimplification.

A logical reason for our creation is the following.
A Creator without creation is inconceivable. A music composer or a musician who doesn't have a composition to show, can not be called a musician.
So if there is a Creator he must necessarily have a creation. We are probably not his first or only creation since this Creator must have had always a creation. If we could imagine a time when this Creator did not have any creation then it would not be a Creator, for the reason mentioned above.
Every creation is done twice. It is first conceived and born in the mind of the Creator and then created and born once again in the physical reality. The example of the musician conceiving and giving birth to a symphony first in his mind and then giving birth to it again in the physical world is a good example.
There are other reasons for our creation that are more subtle and beautiful than logical answers too.

You cannot avoid the holy books and the saints because they are there exactly for that purpose to remind you about your long forgotten relationship with God.
For example if someone is suffering from amnesia (loss of memory) he/she will need to consult some writings, pictures or people to remind him/her of his previous life. Simply imagination will not help here. Although every one of us is an unique personality created by God, still we share in common our true purpose of life – to have a loving relationship with Him and with all His parts and parcels – the living entities.
That God did not give us the right answer to your question yet is your imagination. You simply lack information, that’s all.

Who told you that god created us? This may be a news to you but the truth is that we humans have created god for our own reasons. All holy books are also written by us including the Bible. Jesus was a man and we made his our Savior. How many people he saved during his life? He was a Carpenter and not a doctor or a surgeon. Some of us- very clever and ingenious people came up with the idea of god or a super human and passed on their own ideas onto others systematically. So if you really want to find the real god it is possible by doing some honest research but your religious people will make it impossible for you if you even try. The idea of god and religion and all of these dos and dont are enforced by the cleverest among us. The ************ humans.

Well, I am not a religious person, but I am very spiritual, and I honestly have no idea why God created us. I don't think anyone does. Maybe we are just little toys to him, like an ant farm or something. Maybe we were created to do something great, and we can control our destinies. Who knows. I certainly don't. All I know is that I do believe that there is a God, and that he loves us. As for proof? My faith is the ultimate proof.

Scientific explanation:
God absolutely does not have a part in creating us.
If you want to remember Him, that's the choice YOU make. You, the human give Him a form - be it abstract or idol. He did not say you should remember Him. No rules, no regulations. It is something we make and TELL (not ask) others to follow.
And, funny thing happens in the process - we fight each other, kill each other behead people - because the same humans say my line of thinking is better than yours and all that cow-patties.
Humans just evolve by the process of procreation. You do your thing. It happens.
This is true of all birds, bees, flowers and all things around us. What does God got to do with all this?
If you want to believe God creates, it is up to you.

To think about and unlock the secrets of the world and universe around us. We were given the gift of reason, logic and thumbs for a purpose. If we were to never discover and explore we would of had all the mysteries of the universe bestowed upon us already. Instead we have a sense of imagination and wonder, a will for challenge and discovery, and the fortitude to never be held back.

we are infinitesimal microbes created by god much like any other virus and our collective feaces/pollution is a long term design for the earth to process.
That we will destroy ourselves makes little difference.
we will leave behind immunities for the next civilization to survive as mutants.
That we evolved and populated to this extent is natural. The culling process will also be natural although by our disrespect for Gods work, we have accelerated this end
