I have been on amoxicillin for a couple of days, took a pregnancy test this morning & it was positive. Can amoxicillin cause a pregnancy test to be positive if you're not pregnant?
I also took Mucinex once, Nyquill twice, & have had 6 amoxicillin pills, can that effect the baby? I'm maybe 4-7 wks?

I was on amoxicillin before I missed my period - before I thought I was pregnant.

The only thing that will cause an hpt to test positive is if you have the hcg hormone in your body. Hcg is what your body produces when you are pregnant. Call your OBGYN right away and let them know you are pregnant and tell them what medications you are on. I believe amoxicillian is fine during pregnancy, but don't take the chance with any prescription or OTC medications. Always check with your doctor first. Congratulations and best wishes.

No.. the only things that effect hpt test is if you are taking a medicine that actually has a HCG in it. Read the directions.. it will tell you that. You are pregnant and need to see the doctor.. the only thing that is not good for ya is the NyQuil. The antibiotics are not going to hurt you. Well the NyQuil may not be so bad.. it doesn't have a decongestant in it anymore. But would make an appt soon. Good luck.

Why didnt you ask the doctor about it? You should have told the doc you thought you were pregnant before taking any medications. To heck with the test what might it have done to a baby. Get on the phone and ask the doctor. I have never heard of anyone pregnant using amoxicillin and am not sure you should have it. Ask doc for a pregnancy test and please talk to him about those antibiotics.

I'd read the instructions in your test. There is usually a Q & A section in them and one of the questions usually deals with what if any medicines can give you a fales positive...or call the 800 number on the package and ask there. I don't believe that the medicines listed would cause a false positive, but it's best to consult the company who makes the test.
