okay i hope this helps
example:
you want to wear your new yellow and white striped shirt
What to do: ACCESORIES (its all about the accesories)
great colors to pair up with yellow are NAVY and PINK...
If you are more sophisticated go for pairing it with the navy
If it is just a spring fun look go for the pink
Find a great HEADBAND at forever 21, claires, or target
or some cool PUMPS/flip-flops at charlotte russe or payless...
What to do: PANTS/SKIRTS
Is it cold outside?
sophisticated- dark colored SKINNY jeans
spring fun- a LIGHT WASH flare jean
Warm?
sophisticated- navy blue cargo bermuda shorts
spring fun- light wash denim skirt
What to do: COAT
only needed if cold weather... DUH
sophisticated- a nice black peacoat will work
fun- a white zip up sweatshirt
VOILA! beautiful
its all about knowing what colors go together...
RED- black & white
PINK- light- heather gray & white & brown
hot- black & lime green
ORANGE- very hard to work with try to stay away from using orange in the majority your top or bottom... stick with accesories
YELLOW- well you should no...
GREEN- lime- white & purple & hot pink
dark- also hard to work with
BLUE- light- purple & white
royal- heather gray
navy- yellow & gray & white
PURPLE- light- black & white
dark- hard to work with... try white
BLACK & WHITE- anything
BROWN- light pink
GRAY- light pink & royal blue

Well I coordinate by the color of the shirt basically! If I have a red shirt on like now from an apple bottom company; I wear something that has red in it at least showing...My jeans are denim but by apple bottom and they have fade away gold stripes and they are blue/green color so just coordinate b y the main color that you see on you!!!

Take a color wheel, learn how to use it.
You can color coordinate maximum of 3 colors. more than that and fashion police will arrest you. Of course, this is waived in terms of multi-colored polka-dotted tops. When that happens, make sure you tone down the rest of your outfit. E.g. if you have a black shirt that's full of different colored polka-dots or stripes or whatever it is printed on it, the rest of your outfit should be neutral. Like you should have on simple jewelry, black shoes, black bag. Or pick one color that's on your shirt and roll with it.
Best would be work a color wheel. remember, 3 COLORS ONLY.

I hang all my clothes in my closet by color. When I take out a piece I want to wear, I just hold it up and check what looks best with it . I like to wear solids with prints and use the primary colors of the prints to match with solids.
Jeans go with just about anything so if you like it, wear it. Be your own stylist and don;t worry about what others think.
