I've always pondered this, what makes a person who they are associated as?

For example,what makes someone black, asian, indian, hispainic, white, africian, and so forth their skin color, thir other features like hair texture or eye shape, where they were born, where they live now, where they grew up, their parents' assications, how they speak, what they speak, the culture they embrace, their families culture, their religion, their clothing choices, ancestoral history, how people precieve them or how they see themselves?
