I think it's a classification thing in the US. I totally agree with it when it comes to geographical location because the Philippines are an island group and is located in the Pacific Ocean.

When it comes to looks and culture, I'd lean towards being classified as Asian. Look at Indians, a few Afghans and some Pakistanis. They are considered Asian and not European.

I'd have to agree with being called a Pacific Islander. Only makes sense. If I say I'm Asian, then we get a lot of racial remarks but racists tend not to mess with the Islanders.

I always go to Wikepedia when in doubt. Just now I am trying to clear yours. I think you need to read it as well as go to a Map to see the location. It is very much a part of Asia. So they are Asian. At the same time, to the East is the Pacific Ocean. So it may be that is why some say they are Pacific Islanders. Wikepedia says : Austoaseans" Read below:

Philippines is an island nation located in the Malay Archipelago in Southeast Asia, with Manila as its capital. It comprises 7,107 islands called the Philippine Archipelago ........ making it the 72nd largest country by area.

Modern day Filipinos are mostly of Austronesian ancestry, although there are a number of Filipinos with Spanish, Chinese, American, and Arab ancestry.
Though its rich history, Philippine culture has many affinities with the West. Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion, and Filipino and English are the official languages

Map; see this link. You can see Pacific Ocean.

Filipinos are Southeast Asians, purely like Malaysians and Indonesians. Pacific Islanders are the "Natives" of Polynesia,Micronesia and Melanesia...confident there are Pacific Islanders who would have Asian constructive properties, yet they're nevertheless seen as Pacific Islanders in the event that they're natives.

The primary reason is the influence of the Spanish among many filipinos, has lead many people to think they are not asian. Most people in yahoo answers really don't know where you are located on a map, either.

Most people have no idea on this earth where The islands are. Best bet for you is to not care if other people think you are Asian, or Islander, or if you are from Mars. You are your own person. Why are you so worried about how other people define you?

I don't know, it doesn't make sense, especially since they all originally were Asian to begin with.
