No.
Freedom of Speech says that the government cannot fine or imprison you for your statements (with certain restrictions, of course, such as matters where security or public safety are at risk). That's all it says.
As with any freedom, responsiblity comes with it. Freedom of Speech does not remove you from the consequences of your actions. You can't go up to your boss and say, "I think you're a ^&*&&* $^%^&" and claim Freedom of Speech. The same holds true for hurting someone's feelings. Hurt away, but be prepared for the reprocussions.
Remember the old saying, "Better to keep quiet and have people think you're an idiot rather than speak and remove all doubt."

Freedom of Speech means that you can say anything as long as it does not endanger someone else's life or well being. Lately though, it seems that people are being punished for hurting peoples feelings. The fact is, that we are entitled to freedom of speech, but other people are also entitled to their rebutals and arguments.

I say freedom of speech also has nothing to do with someones feelings or whether they are offended, those restrictions are placed upon the freedom of speech by those who are its enemies. I believe it was Winston Churchill who was once derided in public for drinking by a lady who he then subsequently told that in the morning he would be sober but that she would still be ugly. Think that might have hurt her feelings?

There have been some limits put on speech, such as death threats for example. Other then these few limitations you are free to hurt people's feelings all you want; however, it is ridiculous to practice free speech knowing it will offend and then act all "persecuted" because people don't like you.

A friend of mine, a constitutional lawyer, told me a long time ago: The Constitution does not guarantee the right to not be offended.
That's good advice for a lot of people on all sides.
However, it doesn't justify the quality - or lack thereof - of the rhetoric here on Y!A.

No way.... Say it ,whether or not it does hurt feelings,it's the consequences, however, of the "free speech" that does the damage (slander, for one, is punishable.....)

You can offend as many people as you want, you just can't infringe on their rights.
