It's not hard at all. Problem is we look to THINGS and Other People to MAKE us happy. Happiness is not found in things and great accomplishments.... it is found in the little things in life, loving God, loving self, be contented, striving for needs and not wants and most importantly knowing the difference between the two. Rain and dew drops on the grass, beautiful sunsets, nature walks, digging your toes into the sand, taking a drive on a nice breezy day with the windows down.... have GENUINE friends to share, a drink, a meal, a conversation with.... I could go on and on but it is unfortunate that we humans make happiness elusive by thinking that it comes from money, car, big house etc. Don't get me wrong, having all of the above sure helps in being happy but it's not the cause of it!!

good luck in your quest for happiness.

it is so hard for humans that is us to be happy because we all have feelings and emotions and basically its our present way of life with its stresses and pressures that can't let you be happy . but you can do something to at least feel a little better. it is hard too sometimes to achieve but still we can experience happiness most of the time. if you are healthy that would be the overall happiness

It is hard for many humans to be happy.
Humans want lust and money. That is basically what we live for. ALl over TV is sex and riches.
That is the life people want.
The standard of living is high, even for the working class. Everyone has mobile phones and computers and cars and TVs.
Then, there's this unrealistic image from Hollywood- that you need this life of revelry, wealth, and sex.
Now we see why no one is happy.

It's not, and bear in mind that it's an individual choice for a person to make his/her self happy, and that humans are not meant to be happy 24/7, thus live your life to the fullest, respect all life, so long as said life respects you, learn all that you can, and just let yourself go every now and then so to speak...

We search for happiness and expect it to be there as an essential part of our life that should never go away. We expect happiness to come to us in a multitude of new and unexpected ways, we want happiness to be there round every corner turn, about every situation we let ourselves in, and at every station we approach in our journey through life. And then we start to detest things that made us so much happier once. We always try to find what we never found before; our appetite for happiness is insatiable.

Then we expect our happiness to last without break even when we feel absolutely free to allow ourselves to complain, to moan, and to be resentful about all that this not according to our immediate approval. How can we be happy if we constantly search for happiness allowing ourselves to believe that we are not happy, even when in fact we are? We think happiness to be the name of all the good feelings and even sensations, but do we know that happiness can also be found in sadness, pain and sacrifice; a sense of elevated sorrow, purified grief, deepened longings and dearly held yearnings can also assume forms of happiness, and that a mature and refined mind can actually experiences life more profoundly in these states than in the feelings of mere elation, exuberance, joy or excitement, that do not last very long.

Happiness can be a choice that we make and this choice is not an easy one to make, it involves decisions; happiness, therefore, is also a decision that we find so difficult to make even when we have many options. The choices we make can make us either happy or unhappy, but we cannot see that until we actually choose, decisions, therefore, have to be made with full responsibility. And it is from this point of view I can say that happiness is also a responsibility.

To an active mind happiness is also a decision, a decision that requires total commitment and high sense of responsibility. The choice me make build our life. The right way to think about life therefore is to believe that life belongs to us, as we have made our life what it is. Instead of thinking in opposition to life we can learn to accept life. Happiness therefore is also an act of acceptance of our life that we often find so hard to understand.

Because we try too hard at being happy, instead of quietening our minds and being happy in the moment.

I think we can find moments of happiness, but we are always feeling so many other emotions that happiness can be combined with impatience or excitement...if you know what I mean?

Live in the moment and be happy for today!

Because without suffering there will be no happiness?! Or some of us choose to be unhappy? Perhaps it's an ugly feeling of content. If one finds happiness in their heart then they'll somehow find happieness anywhere.

Because we are constantly told my the media that we have to live up to certain expectations . We have to look like David beckham OR Kate moss otherwise we are rubbish. We are told that we have to have a new car every 3 years otherwise we are rubbish. etc etc. We have to work harder and harder for these materialistic things therefore spending less quality time with our friends and family. I can understand why some people choose to opt out of the "rat race"

Yes, it often was. Now today, with everything we have, it's more easy to be happy. And if not, we take drugs to sedate us so we won't see the normal sadness and depression that is a part of life.
