For travelguruette: I am already a vegetarian. I know the meaning of Lent and I am giving up chocolate because this is something I'm trying to stop anyway. This will help me stop my chocolate thing.

Lent is originally about religious fasting and prayer. It lasts 40 days. The original ( which our church still celebrates ) religious fasting is no animal products - meat, dairy, eggs, etc. It is not about giving up 1 thing. Most people who do give up 1 thing give up small things that do not affect life all that much like chocolate or soda.
