Angelina'... has the right idea, don't worry about it. If you see a beautiful flower, taste a wonderful fruit or vegetable or try to rid yourself of a noxious weed, you'll remember its name even if its Latin or common. A biology professor once told me never to memorize anything you don't need daily or can look up in a book (I guess these days he would include Yahoo). Being so involved with plants these days I've gravitated toward Latin to clarify many common names like daisies or bluebells. I still forget and mispronounce the names of many plants, but my professor would be happy I found Yahoo. RScott

Others are right. It will only become less tedious to you if it means something to you. Why do you want to know the Latin names ? I agree give your favourite plants the names that mean something to you. If you insist on learning the Latin names, learn what they mean - you might understand more about the plant. eg. vulgaris - does not mean crude but common. Any plant whose second name is vulgaris is nearly always a weed, or originates from a weed (naturally growing wild plant).

Hahaha, You may find it tedious, boring and uninteresting now but in years to come you will be proud of the fact that you can name them one after the other. I had no interest in plants, flowers anything to do with gardening when i was living with my parents, now i wish i had taken note and learned the names as well. Don't get downhearted, learn them you will be proud of yourself in the end. Good luck to you.:))))

Not boring at all. Don't learn them all at once. Take an interest in gardening , enjoy it and the names will come naturally to you.

Because even if you remember their names, they're still not going to sleep with you. Or at least, won't give consent.
