I believe joy is something you experience emotionally, and it causes a different set of hormones to be released, and also affects a different part of the brain than pleasure. Pleasure is something we experience that delights the senses, and that also causes a different set of hormones to be released, and affects a different part of the brain.

An interesting question. There is no correct answer in my opinion. The African American recording artist, Stevie Wonder has touched on this when he wrote the lyric' The joy inside my tears'. We can have tears of joy. Have you ever had tears of pleasure? Using this as a point of comparison, I would say the difference between joy and pleasure is that joy is more of an emotional response. Pleasure is a sense of feeling we experience in our lives. Does this help?

Although I agree Joy is emotional and pleasure tends to be physical, it seems that pleasure is dependent upon the external world i.e. you take pleasure from something or because of something but joy is not dependant upon anything one could merely wake up one morning feeling joy. i.e. Joy is a purely emotional state however pleasure is something we feel because of something else, it is contingent upon something else existing.

Joy lasts forever and nothing can take it away. Pleasure feels good, but comes and goes.
