My 1GB Ipod nano says that it holds 240 songs, but once I reach the limit of about 50, the space is taken up! I have no photos.

Audio takes up - 724.9 MB (only with 41 songs)
Other takes up - 489.4 KB (I don't have anything else on my ipod!)
Free Space is - 167.2 MB

Help please?? I tried reloading Itunes altogether, it didn't work. =(

Instead of reloading itunes, try reformatting your pod.

If your iPod only has 41 songs on it, it sounds like your songs are an average of 17.4MB per song! If you've uploaded MP3's to your iPod, the bitrate on the songs is probably around 320 to be this size. This means the songs probably sound better than they would around a bitrate of 128. However, at a bitrate of 128, you probably could get close to 240 songs on your iPod. Apple probably has estimated 240 songs at the standard compression ratio (128) and AAC compression, not MP3 compression.

In other words, if you're using iTunes to import your songs directly from a CD, or if you're downloading the songs from iTunes you're probably going to be able to get 240 songs on your Nano.

Higher bitrates sound better, but take up much more space, lower bitrates don't sound as good, but take up less space.

Good luck!

The iPods do NOT hold the number of songs they say it will hold the number of songs that fit in the memory. Maby your songs have a big size. Most songs are between 4.6-7.0 MB. Try finding smaller sizes of the songs.O and the OTHER is the stuff that apple put in the iPod to run the system.

To find out what is under your other: Do the following go under
MY Computer
Select External Harddrive which is your IPOD
and view the items it might be songs that you thought were transferred through whichever media player you were using but it really saved your songs like you were using your ipod as an external memory device.
I had this problem when I was using Windows Media to transfer some of my songs to my ipod

How many bit rates of your songs? It is recommended to set the quality at 128kbps for AAC format and 160kbps for MP3 format. Change the quality and you can have more songs in your iPod. Other means firmware, instructions, built-in games and other functions.

Other is generally the software that comes on the ipod such as games, radio or setting!
