I'd say overheating. Make sure it is on a flat surface and it has room for ventilation.

If you are working on the laptop at the time then it can not be a Power Options Scheme, however check to make sure the settings are correct:

Click Start>Control Panel>Power Options. Chec all settings are correct.

If the above options are correct then it is more than likely an overheating issue. Most laptop fans can get a little clogged up over time. Try checking on the bottom of the laptop to see if you can unscrew the fan cover, if so carefully remove the cover and vacum the fan if needed.

If the above does not help, try downloading a CPU/RAM/HDD temperature monitoring program and check the results.

You can find quite a few free temp monitors, I usually use SpeedFan as it has a good compatibility list:

Good luck

Yup, it is overheating. Make sure that you use a flat surface, as a pillow, mattress etc blocks the air from escaping the ventilation area. If you placed your laptop on a hard flat surface and it still shuts down...You might want to clean the fan, as they tend to collect dust and it is harder for the heat to escape and the engine uses more energy to spin the fan. Go to any electronics store and buy the air pressure can (used to clean keyboards), and spray the areas where the air goes in and the air goes out. Do it outside if you don't want to clean the floor after blowing all the dust out.

Yeah, overheating.. Make sure the surface it is on has enough space to breath in some air..
I found if i use my laptop in bed, put it on the bed it switches of after 10 mins..
Try cleaning the fan underneath with a tin of compressed air or a hoover...
Also, make sure the Power Settings in control panel are all on "NEVER"

Overheating sounds like the most likely cause to me. Stacking your laptop in such a way that allows the maximimum amount of air to get under your computer while in use may solve the problem. You can use piles of books, on both sides of the laptop, for example, to allow air flow underneath. There are also laptop coolers.

99% sure it's heat. Make sure the bottom rests on a flat hard surface so air can circulate. Check to see if the fan is running, although if it wasn't it would stop a lot sooner.

It probably is over heating. What surface is your laptop on when you use it? My laptop does that on the couch or on a pillow, but if i sit at a table its fine.

sounds like the internal cooling fan may be knackered, they are easy to replace for around 40 quid!

The battery might need charging.
