They still have a chance of defending their title, but it may not look as certain as before. Tournaments like the World Cup can throw up a number of situations - who would have predicted Kenya making the semi finals at the last World Cup!! Any of the major teams playing in the World Cup can win the tournament if they string good performances together at the right time, especially as there is uncertainty about how the pitches will play in the World Cup as most of the pitches have been relaid. There is talk that they are slow like sub continental pitches, and there is also talk they could be bouncy like Australian and South African pitches.
Just look at Australia's victory in the 1999 tournament. They lost group games against NZ and Pakistand and were on the verge of being eliminated. However they did not lose another game after that (the semi final tie with SA being their only non-victory) and won the tournament, peaking at the right time. The same can apply to any team in this tournament.

While Australia will defenitely come back strongly, their winning the world cup cannot be guaranteed as cricket is a game of uncertainties and the ultimate result will depend upon the performance in the world cup.
Presently all the top 8 teams stand a chance to win the world cup. Whichever team plays to their potential consistently during the world cup will be the ultimate winners.

NOT IT CANNOT!!!
With pitches slow and low in WI i think there is only 20% chance for teams like AUS, ENG,SA ,NZ because they are not used to these types of wickets , so it is going to be 75% chance for the sub-contitental teams and 5% for WI as it is the home team.

Australian senior players are retiring
so young players cannot play with that same enthusiasm and zeal
Australia is surely losing its control over cricket and they will surely loose WC this time
