She's probably lashing out because she's hurt. Maybe she had something important to tell you and feels like you blew her off. Tell her you're sorry if you hurt her feelings and explain why you didn't sit with her. If she's still mad or won't listen, give her some space and don't worry about the gossip. Be there for her when she's ready to come back if you value the friendship but be honest and open with her on how her own behavior made you feel. Ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away...it just buries it and later, it might seem worse than it really is.

To avoid this from now on, if you have always had lunch and breaks with someone and then out of the blue you decide to sit with someone else, let that person know. It's very rude not to and that's why she's pissedd. If you want to go alone say, I'm have lunch with Suzy today, I'll catch up with you later. If it's no big deal, invite your friend along. I'm sure your friend was looking forward to having time with you and you left her in the cold. If you always treat your friends like that, I suggest she that she may need to find a new friend.

If she's gossiping about you or spreading rumors because you two didn't happen to sit together for lunch then she doesn't sound like much of a friend to me. I'm sure you can find better people to be friends with than this person.

Try to confront her about and talk to her but if she doesn't want to talk go on and find new friends because shes obviously not a real good friend. It will be her loss in the long run that she doesn't have you as a friend anymore.

If she is angry at you for not sitting with her one day then she is childish and starting rumors is not something a good friend would do. Move on and make new friends, it is her loss.

well if she gets pissed just b/c you didnt sit w/ her for one day...then sounds 2 me like shes attached. just call her up and ask her why she is pissed. and dont just assume that she is gossiping about you....could lead to sum nasty fighting.
