Rod Carew batted .388 with 14 homers and 100 rbi in 1977. Tom Herr batted .302 with 8 homers and 110 rbi in 1985. He benefited from most often batting third with speedsters Vince Coleman batting first and Willie McGee batting second . Coleman had 110 stolen bases and McGee contributed 56. McGee won the batting title at .353 10 homers and 82 rbi. Coleman batted .267 1 homer and 40 rbi.
Herr also had Jack Clark batting behind who although injured on and off during the season when healthy was arguably the most feared hitter of his time.
Herr was a good to very good player, but that year he benefited greatly from Herzogs running offense. Herr when traded to Minnesota in 1987 was a malcontent and played an arthritic 2nd base, he was always whining about wanting to be traded to an eastern team and did not gel with alot of the Minnesota players.

Rod Carew had over 10 homers that year. Tom Herr in 1985.

I know Keith Hernandez came close to doing it a couple of times.

Cashman desperate to pay him $27 million consistent with 300 and sixty 5 days over ten years. massive mistake. i think of that ridiculous settlement is the only rationalization why he remains hitting in the path of the order.
