I was just wondering because I have a 5 gallon tank that is being unused, if there isn't then I will leave it unused. Just wondering because I have a 10 gallon tank that I want to concentrate on so I would like something low maintenance for my smaller tank. Thanks.

Your best is a small school of White Cloud Mountain Minnows.

These are cool water fish, so you don't need a heated tank.

They stay small, so they won't outgrow the tank. They are also lower waste fish, unlike goldfish, so they're more realistic for an unfiltered tank.

With no filtration you can only keep a few. You should strongly consider getting a small filter, even a cheap sponge one. A small sized aquaclear costs around 15 bucks and is highly effective. Then you can keep a few more fish, it will be less work for you, and healthier for the fish.

You could get a betta male or female but even if you don't get filter, for a betta, I would recommend a heater, like $10. And really a filter would make it even more low maintenance because then you wouldn't have to change the water as often.

with no filter or heater, not much.
if it's in a warm room, a betta, but they are tropical fish and if their temperature keeps on fluctuating they will get sick and die.
they will also need regular water changes, weekly or bi-weekly.

or you could keep some types of snails. pest snails, ramshorn or pond, but they'd still need very regular water changes as all snails poop a lot.

basically, without a filter and heater and in such a tiny tank not even "cold" water fish would thrive. white cloud mountain minnows are sub-tropical fish, not cold water like goldfish and the carp family. white clouds are active little fish that would appreciate a tank much larger than a 5 gallon, and a filter.

i've got self assurance you are able to desire to develop daphnia in there to feed on your different fish. I even have by no ability performed that, yet i think of I study you're able to do it in purely approximately any length container. you additionally could make it a scientific institution tank to quickly domicile fish you're treating. With it being small, that's going to help you shelter the costly chemical ingredients. EDITED to characteristic: Galaxy Rasboras (aka Celestial Pearl Danios) are high priced little critters that choose a 15-gallon minimum, species in basic terms tank through fact they're tiny, comfortable, and shy. i've got had some ordered for weeks now and would't seem to get them in. i does not placed money into those for this style of small tank considering the undeniable fact that they had possibly no longer stay to tell the story.

Warning you don't want put any "anole lizards, turtles or goldfishes" in a 5gallon tank!!! but u can put a Betta fish in there because the can breathe from the top of the water or you can put 2 guppy fish because there very small although you wanna clean their tank every 2 weeks. Maybe a tarantula because they are small and easy to take care of.Probably dwarf clawed frog they are a type of frog that live in water their entire life they are small, active, hardy and you could get 3 for one 5gal tank.

The best things you could go with are 2 goldfish (relatively small) OR OR OR a betta, you can't put them together, the betta (more often than not) will attack the goldfish. Although, I would recommend putting in a small air pump if you get the goldfish, it will help with air circulation even without a filter. If you have any other questions you need help with, just let me know through e-mail (nsaneknutkase@yahoo.com OR smckinst@capital.edu). Have a great day. And, I hope this helped.

My opinion, a betta if your house is warm enough, other than that I would suggest you get a small heater for it. Now with a filter and heat, you can keep tons of different fish in it.

A goldfish. I recomend only getting a limit of two, if you get comets or pond-type, cause they get big.

Most goldfish do not need a heater, but the water should be around 60degrees Farenhite. A goldfish can survive in 40Degree Farenhite water for up to 3mounths. You should put deiodized salt n the water, to influence growth and health in the fish. This salt can be found at your local groccery store.

The recard for a goldfish living this way is 33years.

For oxygen, you can by live plants at your local pet store. Don't take plants from the wild! They could be dangerous. I know you don't have one, but I recomend that you at least buy a water pump. They can be cheap as 10$.
I hade my goldfish for 6years so far...

If you don't want a fish, then you can always get a small hamster or mouse. They're fun and easy.

Just don't get a pine or cedar bedding=
they're bad for rodents.

Choose the right habitant. Need to put some plant and have it placed where there's sunlight. Make it like nature's pond..
Suggestion: can keep Betta/guppies.
