I bought a new goldfish. He was born with no dorsal fin. He swims around okay. Kind of waddles a bit compared to other goldfish but seems fine. His tail fins are very flat and short and his body and head have a slightly different shape to other goldfish.

Does anyone know if his life expectancy will be same as other goldfish? and does anyone know if having no dorsal fin may have changed his body shape and tail fin to accommodate having no dorsal fin so that he can swim better?

Thank you!

chances are yours is either one of these or a cross with one of these.

The dorsal fin is what gives a goldfish balence for speed-swimming. That's not magor. He's a "special" fish.
I'm figuring his egg was tampered with when he was developing, since goldfish will eat their own eggs.
He should have a good life, as long as no inner organs are too defected.
I recomend you keep an eye on him, though for other fish may pick on him to show aggression and power.

Give him a good home to live long years in!

It kind of depends on where you got the fish. I got a Goldfish from PetsMart and he's lived for a year and a half now. So what about the dorsal fin? He should be fine so dont worry about it. He should be a regular goldfish.

Hope that Helps!
