Rather than giving him heating foods like oats, try checking out the way you are riding and the horse's attitude. You don't give any details on your horse, such as age or background so it is difficult to comment. Some horses are naturally lazy and need stronger riding. It maybe a case where your horse has lost interest in his work for some reason, if he is bored with the same routine or come from a riding school background, or if he has experienced inconsiderate riding in the past. Older horses who have been there, done that can also find life a bit boring. Sometimes horses who are asked to work beyond their level of ability will become uncooperative.

I think your best bet is to have a couple of lessons with an experienced instructor. They will be able to assess if it is your riding that needs to be worked on, or if it is a problem with your horse. They will also be able to advise on food and the use of gadgets. Also try changing his routine, doing different activities with him to see if that rejuvenates him. You may also want to discuss your horse's diet with your vet.

If your horse is naturally lazy then you will have to be more persuasive with him to get him going - but seek help first and do things the right way.

Good luck.

feeding it higher energy foods will usually not do anything other than upset the stomach or create a nervous horse. If a horse is lazy, you need to use (or sometimes just carrying is enough) a whip or spurs. Some horses are just naturally lazy. There is nothing you can do about it but make it go more. This does mean YOU will have to do the work, but then, if you were lazy, you wouldn't mind riding a lazy horse.

Corn is probebly between the main well liked feeds. it may relatively perk them up. I used to grant my horse some cups oats blended with candy feed. I by no ability provide any of my horses corn through fact it makes them 2 warm. yet once you like that then you definately can attempt it. and consistently commence out little and then artwork as much as the disired ammount.

First get it checked out by the vet to make sure its lazy and not ill. Make sure its womed. Hopefully it acts normally in the field.
It could be sour from work and may need a change of routine. A higher energy feed isn't going to change his attitude to his work; just make him more skittish and it will be difficult to get him to concentrate - especially if he has a bad attitude to start with.
