My chemical romance has some... ill try to find wich ones. i wont listen to most of thire stuff because of that effect it has on me.
im rembering wrong the only one i can find with actuall refrence to self harm is cemtary drive. only a brife refrence to.
Note : i agree with the girl that posted below this about it not influencing people with the exception of 2 things : 1- some people do use it as a fashion statement /for attention or whatever (although that is wrong) and 2 from personal experince the lyrics do not help a person who is trying to stop. its almost like an addiction, really if a smoker was trying to quit and you kept telling him/her how great the cigerett was... helps alot with stress, would that possibly influence them to start agian.? oh well just my opinion

I'm 45 and ashamed to say I cut myself when things get too much. This song has stopped me going too far on quite a few occasions:
The Final Cut - by Pink Floyd
Released 1983
Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.
If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotgun in the hall,
Dial the combination, open the priesthole
And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall.
There's a kid who had a big hallucination
Making love to girls in magazines.
He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith.
Could anybody love him
Or is it just a crazy dream?
And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?
Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

If psychologists had done their homework they would know that music/lyrics will not influence self-harmers. Self-harming is not a phase a person goes through just because certain rock bands write about it so they do it. It should not be taken as a fashion or something like that, it is a serious, deep-rooted problem. Self-harming would occur whether you like that kind of music or not. Self-harming is an urge that the person cannot fight. It should not be blamed on bands and their music/lyrics. They perhaps write about it because they've experienced it or they want to appeal to those people who self-harm. But I know self-harmers who would not listen to music like that because it is not their cup of tea. If only self-harming was influenced by music!!!

lyrics i dont know any, but how about the britney spears video where she slits her wrists in the bath..........thats more likely to get thru to young impressionable teenagers than lyrics....i'd mention that image of her in your essay somewhere, why did she feel the need to expose that kind of thing to anyone who could be watching, its irresponsible!
