Because with IVF they transfer fertilized embryos directly back into the uterus.
Just because a healthy embryo is placed in the uterus doesn't guarantee that the embryo will implant and grow to become a healthy baby.
So to increase the chances of pregnancy the doctors usually transfer a number of embryos in the hope that at least one will survive and a pregnancy will occur.
Generally speaking, if a pregnancy does occur then normally only one baby is born, however occasionally after a mutiple embryo transfer more than one embryo implants, resulting in a multiple birth - twins or even triplets (sometimes more, depends on how many embryos were transferred).
Depending on the reasons behind the woman needing the IVF treament, her age and clinic protocol, the doctor will talk to the patient FIRST about how many embryos will be transferred and will walk her through the risks involved with multiple pregnancy. USUALLY a maximum of 3 embryos will be transferred, if three are available, but sometimes two or ony one. It really is very subjective and a bit complicated to explain here.
You don't always get a multiple birth, but on average, the multiple birth rate from IVF assisted pregnancy is higher than from natural conception.

Because they usually insert 3 fertilized eggs or more since most of them generally don't implant. It is more common for none of them to implant than to it is to get multiple births. If you looked at the statistics of all IVF patients, the majority of multiple births would be a small percentage. The multiple births just get more attention because they are uncommon.

confident, what you heard is actual. recently, they pass in basic terms 2-3. the final public of better order multiples right this moment are from fertility injections, no longer IVF. some international locations already shrink IVF to 2 embryos in basic terms, consistent with cycle, and that would ultimately take place interior the US besides.

Purely because more embryos are put back to increase the chance of pregnancy. Nowadays, the number has been reduced to 2 in the UK for women under 40 (I think).
