You didn't say who was 21 or who was 42. It is acceptable, i think both socially as well as by law. However I would wonder what there could actually be in common? I would guess that there is possibility for a lot of frustration down the track - simply because of the couple of generations gap. But love is supposed to conquer all, right? Hmm, now that I think about it though, there is an awful lot to consider ... at 42 someone may be wanting to settle whereas at 21 it is unlikely that you have met "the one". There could be conflicts over that, especially when it comes to family (as in starting one of your own). But if you are both open about your individual expectations ... I still don't get how this works though, aren't 21 year olds into just hanging out and parties and clubs but 42 year olds stay at home and cook dinner or go out to restaurants to eat and generally would be rather cynical (as in been there, done that) about the way 21 year old's live their lives? I'm rambling I know and probably haven't helped at all. Oh well .... I'll go find another question to answer ...

I assume the 42 year old is the man. Midlife crisis time and if he's married or divorced with a ton of baggage, forget it.

Legal, yes, but I'm 21 and can't imagine being with someone my dad's age! There are just too many differences

Age is only numbers!
I am 75 years old and I have many 22 - 23 - 24 year old women who enjoy my company, and I am know that I enjoy theirs!

Too much of an age difference. Although it is legal, the generation gap is too large.
