I use my towels maybe twice and they smell like mildew, what can I do to get rid of this smell besides washing them every two days?

This happened to me--gross, isn't it?

First, you have to wash them with bleach or Lysol to get rid of the mildew, or it will grow back as soon as they get damp again. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Bleach is best on white towels, as it will fade colored ones. Lysol is kinder on colors.

Second, you have to make sure they dry reasonably fast after you use them. Hang them flat on a towel rod (or over the shower curtain rod); don't leave them on the floor or all bunched up. If your bathroom is all steamy, run the fan (or open the window) so the steam escapes.

If you still have mildew problems, condensation on windows/walls, etc. you may need a dehumidifier.

My kids always seem to leave a load of towels in the washer for a few days and I come back to find them mildewing. The only thing that takes out the smell is to use OxyClean laundry booster. One scoop of it put in the water before the towels go back in is all it takes. Then just make sure you get them nice and dry.

If it's happening in your bathroom, then you've got a moisture problem from bad ventilation. Still wash them with OxyClean, but get a small dehumidifier to put in your bathroom to keep down the moisture that's causing the problem.

Make sure they are spread open when you hang them to dry, turn on the fan/ventilator if you are taking a hot shower, make sure you leave the door or a window open after you hang up the towel to dry.

Make sure you let them dry fully after using them. If you have a drying rack, hang it over that after each use. The same goes for washcloths.

Wash them all once with bleach and use fabric softener in the washer and dryer. Once you use one again spread it out over a large area (depending on how big or small they are) and once they are dry use frebreeze on them. it works everytime.

when you employ the towel, be particular you carry them to air dry. also, make certain they are completely dry in the previous you fold them and placed them away. you are able to eliminate the mold scent with washing them in a cup of white vinegar.
