Do you believe in it or Plato was lying about it? So, why did he wite a book on it?

Some people believe that Thera, an island that was north of Crete, is the legendary Atlantis. A volcano there erupted, and toxic fumes spread through the air, killing everyone who wasn't already killed. Then, part of the island broke off, and sank beneath the sea, causing huge tidal waves to hit Crete, where the Minoans lived. Everyone was killed by the poison gases, and the tidal waves. Whoever survived was taken captive by invaders. I think the Minoans taught the invaders about their culture, etc. and the invaders treated them nicely, I think. I'm not sure if the invaders were the Macedonians or not. I'm sure Plato based Atlantis on Thera...
