Now as far as area goes, there is a city that is larger than the state of Delaware and you'll have to go through Canada to get there, unless you live in Alaska.
Officially the city is named 'City and Borough of Sitka', but it's better known as Sitka, Alaska.
In 2000 Sitka consolidated the City of Sitka Borough to beat out Juneau as the largest city in America.
Sitka covers an icy 2874 square miles.

Jacksonville, FL is the largest city by land mass in the continental US (or lower 48 as Alaskans sometimes snobbishly refer to them as). 820 square miles or so if I remember correctly. Formerly, Juneau, AK was the king for all 50 states, but Sitka, did in fact incorporate to make themselves the largest, beating out Juneau. (and in doing so making themselves the least densely populated city in the world). Cheers.
