Good question. You may expect fog to form on nights when the temperature is expected to drop to within a degree of the dewpoint, when calm winds are forecast, and when the sky condition is clear or scattered clouds which will allow the temperature to drop to the dewpoint. Hope this helps you understand this a little better.

The airmass will be moist, saturated, and cooled. Also, you can check your local weather conditions and if the dewpoint and temperature are about the same on a clear night and the winds are calm, fog will form.
